The Woodworking Show is Coming to Baltimore
This weekend, January 7-9th, The Woodworking Show will be in Baltimore at our state fairgrounds. I will be going on Saturday and I am very excited. I didn’t make it to the show last year as I was out of town. I went several years ago and it was honestly disappointing. Since then new ownership has taken over the show and I have heard reports that it has gotten a lot better. What’s more exciting is that several of my friends from the internet community will be in attendance as well. Of course, my mentor, Chuck Bender, will be in attendance and he has let slip that he will be doing some inlay demonstrations that will “blow your mind”. (Chuck did you know you are my mentor, better behave from now on) One thing Chuck has taught me is that he is constantly full of simple yet profound ideas borne out of years of experience so you won’t want to miss this.
Additionally, Andy Chidwick will be out all the way from Montana and teaching a seminar on building a chair. Andy specializes in the Maloof style sculpted chair and this should be a good opportunity to learn from someone who has been building these works of art for many years. Andy recently paid a visit to my friend Todd Clippinger’s shop out in Montana and Todd was smart enough to film the visit and interview Andy about his cross country trek. Check out the video here.
Finally, the PR firm that is helping to promote the show here in Baltimore contacted me and has given me 6 free passes for the entire weekend. 4 of them are already spoken for, but if any of my readers are local to the area, drop me a line (in the contact box under About in the nav bar above) and let me know you are interested and I’ll make arrangements to meet up on Saturday. Of course any time I’m out and about, I would love to meet people who read my ramblings here. This is a good excuse for me to apologize for making you read all this, but mostly I can’t resist meeting new woodworkers: the best kind of people.
Thanks again to The Woodworking Show for the free passes and I hope to see some of your out in the wild. I’ll be sure to report back after the show so those of you further down the show path can find out what you can expect when it comes to your town.
