Bad Axe Toolworks Dovetail Saw Thoughts
Mark Harrell of Bad Axe Toolworks sent me two of his new dovetail saws to try out and put through their paces. To be fair, we did an exchange and Mark is now a member of The Hand Tool School. I haven’t had much time to work with the 12 inch hybrid dovetail/small tenon saw named Wyatt Earp, but Doc Holiday, the 10 inch dovetail saw, is a beauty. The Mesquite handle, precisely placed to put the force where it’s needed, combined with the longer plate and hammer set teeth make this one of the best dang saws I have every cut a dovetail with. (pardon the dangling preposition)
Here are some of my initial thoughts:
****UPDATE**** Mark Harrell is not quite ready to offer custom handle sizing just yet. He tells me this is a direction he wants to take his business but there is still some tooling needed and set up. I’m not sure if I made this clear in the audio, but I know Mark has received at least one person asking if this was possible. Not yet, but consider it just part of the many good things to come from this toolmaker.
