Chips ‘n Tips 8 Block Plane Roundover
Today’s tip is a simple one but often overlooked block plane technique. Just because its a straight blade doesn’t mean you can’t cut a round over. In fact, unofficial consumer testing shows that most people prefer the block planed rounded edge than one cut by a router bit. I think its the way the light bounces off the slightly faceted surface in more interesting ways than the continuous arc of a router bit created round over.
Give it a try, you’ll find out just how fast this can be done and you didn’t make any noise or dust in the process!
Congratulations to Sam Rusch! He chose a pair of medium Iwazaki Rasps when his name came out of the hat.
