Hand Tool Olympics, How I Missed Thee
Yes yes we all know that I didn’t make it to WIA this year and I have come to grips with it since I have been absorbing the reports from my fellow bloggers and picking up fun tips along the way. I have come to grips with it and moved on…that is until I saw this video that Mike Siemsen put up on YouTube. If you don’t know Mike, you should make an effort to get to know him. Mike is the brains (well maybe not brains) behind the Hand Tool Olympics, owner and head dishwasher of the Siemsen School of Woodworking, SAPFM Minnesota Chapter President, Heckler extraordinaire, and all around nice guy.
Check out his blog post that precedes this dovetail showdown video to get the full story. There are some great pictures of the finished joints along with some stories of other woodworking celebrities and their “entries”. Including my friend Chuck Bender who did his dovetailing students proud!
So now my longing to have been in Covington is renewed and I will spend the next few days pining and moaning. Or maybe I will just go cut some dovetails.
