Handsaws and What You Need to Know

My Hand Sawing Class at Woodworking in America 2016

This was a 2 hour class and in reality I came in at about 2 hours and 15 minutes with all the questions at the end. I edited most of that out and still the above video is about 2 hours long. So watch at your own risk! But I do hope that you will find some useful information about hand saws and an in depth look at tooth geometry and what it can mean to you when it comes to choosing which saws you want and which saws you need.

Other Saw Questions?

Let me know whats on your mind in the comments below. Sawing I believe is the most important hand skill and choosing the right saw can go a long way to improving your sawing experience.

Shannon,
Just watched to whole video. I expect I will need to watch it several times as there is so much great info. As someone who was not able to attend WWA I wanted to say thank you for making this available.

Best regards,
Chris.

Shannon,

Been lurking on your site for a while. I’m new to woodworking, abdvreally appreciate the info you put out there. Thanks!

Do you have any info on the blade guard s you used. They seem handy. Are they shop made?

Thanks!

    Shannon

Some are shop made, others came with the saws made by the artisan. Its nothing more than a stick of wood with a fine kerf in it that holds the saw. I don’t use them for anything but when I travel with the saws. In my til in the shop there are no guard on the teeth.

Thanks a million for resources like this. I just finished watching the video and came in search of your class handout/notes. Have filled out my name and email more then once but not able to download.

Hi Jeff, sorry about that, I show everything went through on my end. I’ll email you directly with the PDF.
